There are not many things at my age that I can say are totally new experiences. Yesterday was the exception, it was the first time I had ever been on a tandem bike. Not many pictures as I had to really focus on steering. The smile is deceptive as it really was a stressed out look that froze my face that way. More to follow in a future blog.
We did 20km round trip from our camping in Ossenzijl to Nederland and back. We stopped for lunch in Kalenberg.

Tandem bikes waiting…

We made it to Nederland!

I could never got my wife to go on a tandem with me. Perhaps she thought she would lose her independence. Haha!

As a child I’d look on tandem bikes with envy…someone to help me peddle up some otherwise impossible hills was my thought! It never occurred to me until much later that two people tackling the same hill at the same time on the same bike might require absolute coordination and cooperation! A tandem bike is the obvious crossover activity for a successful canoe partnership! Hopefully you didn’t take a “double” spill or tear or break anything. New adventures keep us young-at-heart! Did your frozen smile relax by the end of the 20km?

Funny – but you are correct it is a great crossover activity. We call it “Team Building”. There will be a entire blog on the tandem ride. My smile did relax a bit but I was still tense as heck when I got off the bike.

I hope my wife doesn’t read this and get any ideas – she is always trying to get me to go biking on a tandem – fortunately, I can see through her evil scheme to get me to do all the work ha!

If she does I suggest taking the backseat.
